what you’ll need
- your modem/router (BYO or the sprfst add-on modem)
- your connection credentials from the sprfst app (username and password)
- the NBN equipment already installed at your premises (NTD, connection box, or wall socket depending on your connection type)
Find your credentials in the app under Account → Connection details. See your connection credentials for a full explanation of each field.
connecting your modem
FTTP (fibre to the premises)
- Locate your NTD (network termination device) — a white box usually on an interior wall.
- Connect an ethernet cable from the UNI-D1 port on the NTD to the WAN or Internet port on your router.
- Power on your router and wait 2 minutes.
- Log into your router’s admin interface (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 — check your router’s label).
- Set the WAN connection type to PPPoE.
- Enter your username and password from the app.
- Save and apply. Your router will establish the connection within 30–60 seconds.
FTTC (fibre to the curb)
- Locate your DPU connection device — plugged into the phone wall socket.
- Connect an ethernet cable from the DPU to the WAN port on your router.
- Power on and follow steps 4–7 above.
FTTN (fibre to the node)
- Connect your VDSL2-capable modem/router to the phone wall socket using the supplied RJ-11 cable.
- Log into your router’s admin interface.
- Set the WAN connection type to PPPoE (some FTTN setups use IPoE — try PPPoE first).
- Enter your username and password from the app.
- Save and apply.
If your router has ADSL and VDSL options, make sure it’s set to VDSL.
HFC (hybrid fibre-coaxial)
- Locate your NTD — connected to the coaxial cable outlet in your wall.
- Connect an ethernet cable from the UNI-D1 port on the NTD to the WAN port on your router.
- Follow steps 4–7 from the FTTP section above.
testing your connection
Once your router shows a connected WAN status, open a browser and try loading a website. If it works, you’re done.
If the WAN connection shows as disconnected, double-check:
- Username and password are entered correctly (copy-paste from the app if possible)
- The correct WAN port is being used on both the NTD and the router
- PPPoE is selected (not DHCP or static IP)
If you’re still stuck, open in-app chat and we can check your credentials and run diagnostics from our end.
